Last Run: Gerbils and Whippets farewell run, there on their way to live in the Ulan Bator freezer!
After checking in for his flight to Ulan Bator, Whippet nipped back to join us for the run. A hurried safety briefing regarding the numerous hills had us gasping for breath even before we set off.
Two runs were set and the checks had each and every one of us fooled at some stage or other and good timing meant the runners caught up with the walkers on the home straight.
Gerbils and Whippet enjoy a down down to celebrate the last time in bare feet for a couple of years!! |
For the On On, to send them off in style - into the zone of discontinuous permafrost with an average annual temperature of minus 2.4 C Gerbils and Whippet were presented a modern day conventional Hot Water Bottle (or hottie).
Hotties are one of life's forgotten pleasures and remain a popular alternative in rural areas (for example, it is widely used in Mongolia). There has been a recent surge in popularity as it is seen to be an ecologically friendly and thrifty way to keep warm.
Warning! - There have been problems with premature failure of rubber hot water bottles due to unsuitable fillings containing yeast, identified as Cascade Premium Light.
Thanks Hares, good luck at the Hash Migration have a great safari and keep in touch.
